This little boy (Luke) has type 1 diabetes and has to have his blood sugar tested 8-10 times a day to make sure it doesn’t fall too low. He even wears a device when he sleeps that will sound off if his blood sugar drops below a certain level.
His mom, being an extra cautious parent, also got a dog (Jedi) who is trained to smell when Luke’s blood sugar drops too low.
The other night Jedi woke her up in the middle of the night so she looked at Luke’s monitor and it showed that everything was okay so she tried to go back to sleep but Jedi wouldn’t let her.
She got up again and tested his levels herself and found out that they were dangerously low. The reading was 57 and anything lower than 70 is the danger zone. According to CBS News, Jedi saved his life! As if this story couldn’t get any better, just wait until you see a picture of Luke and Jedi.
