CNN is reporting that the deadliest single incident for law enforcement since September 11, 2001 happened yesterday in Dallas. A suspect who hasn’t been identified was going after law enforcement, specifically white officers in the wake of the “recent police shootings” and was killed by a bomb that authorities detonated. Dallas Police Chief David Brown told reporters:
“We saw no other option but to use our bomb robot and place a device on its extension for it to detonate where the suspect was. Other options would have exposed our officers to grave danger. The suspect is deceased as a result of detonating the bomb.”
As a result of this shooting, five officers were killed and seven more injured. Most of those injured have been released from the hospital. As of now they only have one suspect, but Brown said,
“I’m not going to be satisfied until we’ve turned over every stone. We’ve got some level that this one suspect did do some of the shooting. But we’re not satisfied that we’ve exhausted every lead,” he said. “So if there’s someone out there who’s associated with this, we will find you, we will prosecute you, and we will bring you to justice.”
The Dallas Police Department thought a man named Mark Hughes was one of the shooters and even identified him on their Twitter, which was then used on every news broadcast and social media platform. Mark was at the gathering protesting but was not responsible for the shootings and was later cleared by police after a 30 minutes interrogation. You can see what he had to say to CBS Dallas, HERE.
